I can recognise and understand a variety of grammatical constructions and some rhetorical patterns

I can recognise and understand a variety of grammatical constructions and some rhetorical patterns

In me and Emma's test we got 17/19 a good result meaning we only had a couple of activities we do before completed.

In this unit I have been learning about:
The parts of speech.
The types of nouns.
The types of sentences.

In this unit, I found challenging remembering the difference between collective noun, abstract noun and noun

Something new I learnt was Learning what different words meant and fully understanding them so I can use them in my writing or reading

librarian-merit bage

Since it was was Wednesday Emma, Jessica and I headed to the libary for our duty. Today it was a bit different since it was cold all the little kids came to the library instead of us coming to the junior area. It worked out great because the kids could choose their own book instead choosing out of a small amount. I read to Aleen and Adam who loved reading and really wanted to do it again. ( which I should hopefully see them again). Overall I really ennjoyed staying in the libary this time letting the kids choose a corner and I really enjoyed it.

The leaderhsip trait I showed was active thinking because I had to think because there was already so many kids in the library and they had to stay there.

    Student Led Conference Reflection

The things I enjoyed most about my SLC were:
was showing them my art because I was really proud of that

    What went well and why?
was the integrated learning because they were really entered in the process of how we first started to the end

What were the challenges you faced when preparing and presenting your SLC?
The one challenge I had was I mixed up the links so i had to think quick and showed them how I found the slides (through online zone) and they asked more questions about that :)

What changes would you make for next time and why?
I would make sure I shared my writing first because that takes longest so I could get it over and done with

Here is a photo of my art work:

My next step in visual art is: Is to do the glazing technique better because it din't really show through in my leaf and all to do my shading in my background better.

    Leadership meeting - must do

Today we had our leadership meeting on Monday at morning tea time. We got into a circle and discussed how we've been going this year. Asking questions like how it’s going? Favourite bit? Most challenging? We discussed this a partner expect the last one which we went around the circle just so Mr Ladbrook could see what we could to improve on.
Thew leadership trait I used was ative thinking becuase I had to think of good ideas for the questions.
Overalll It was really good and I got to know the people around me a bit more.

    Leadership meeting-Merit

Today we talked about being organised and how to juggle responsibly some of the thing I learnt was to write it down, everything you own you know where they are and preparation is the key you need to be prepared for everything. I think these tips were really helpful and will definitely use them in the future as a leader. Mr Ladbrook also told us some of his own tips which were really good (mainly apps)
The care value I used was active thinking because I had to think how I could put these goals in action.

Overall this really helped me and I will definitelyuse these tips in the future at the moment my goal is to write things down because I usually forget about important details.

I have a large vocabulary that is connected to my own knowledge about the world.

Year 9/10: I have a large vocabulary that is connected to my own knowledge about the world.

    Name of Text: Underground Explorers

    Definitions
Void: an empty space or vacuum.

Fluorescent: able to give off visible light after being exposed to a source of heat, light, or other form of energy

Vulnerable: able to be hurt or injured

Interconnected: to connect or cause to be connected one to the other or others.

    Seldom: not often; rarely.

    Screen Shot 2014-10-09 at 11.04.46 am.png
    Example/Non Example
Is a void messy? Why or why not?
A void is not messy because it is an empty space  completely blank meaning that it is is impossible to mess up only if you deliberately made it messy making it not a void
Which color is the most fluorescent at night? Why?
Neon because it sticks out in the dark of the night and helps at night on signs so people can see
Why are elderly people more vulnerable than children? Why?
Because of old age they are less stable and balance is shaky and on the other hand kids are full of energy and life because they have much to look forwards and can move more freely
Which is more interconnected; a vine or a dandelion? Why?
A vine because it is connected to the ground pull a dandelion easily pull out
Which is more seldom; the Olympics or an election in NZ? Why?
The olympic because it happens every four year well a election is every three years

    Screen Shot 2014-10-09 at 11.04.50 am.png
    Word Associations
The plants in the garden are die during a frost
    Vulnerable
There were lots of different paths that joined each other

    Interconnected
I made a shot from halfway while facing backwards.

    Seldom
We are still exploring  outer space.
    Void
I can find my key ring easily in the dark.
    Fluorescent

    Screen Shot 2014-10-09 at 11.04.50 am.png
    Word Relationships

How might each pair of words be connected?
    Vulnerable/Fluorescent
They are similar because  the use of Fluorescent is sometimes to prevent injures so people will see the the stop signs (in brightly colored sign) and stop.
    Void/interconnected
They are similar because in a blank space there is always a connection to the void connecting to something else.

    Screen Shot 2014-10-09 at 11.04.50 am.png
    Extended Writing
Think of a time when you felt as though you were in a void or when you saw something that happens seldom. Write a paragraph about this.
One time at night I looked through a telescope and there was no stars and all I could see was the dark of the night (void) and it just black not the thee moon or a star to be seen.

    My Short Story

For this piece of writing I have focussing on my vocabulary and punctuation. I have been learning to..

    • use a range of precise vocabulary to communicate meaning (Year ⅞)
    • use all basic punctuation independently and attempt more complex punctuation (eg semicolons, colons, parentheses) (Year 7/8)

The pieces of my writing that are highlighted green are where I have shown my vocabulary and punctuation goal

    My story Peer Pressure

My hands felt clammy with sweat. I was really nervous about this whole high school thing. I watched every high school clique there was I don’t know if that made me prepared or not .

    “Name“

The voice startled me I \ around ], there was an average height girl, black hair with blue highlights. She had her skirt hitched so it made even the uniform look cool.

“Sarah?” I say more as a question.

She Gnawed on her her gum thoughtfully ”I’m harmony, I know sucky name but I didn’t choose it” Harmony says.

I felt this was the end of our conversation so I  take off towards Block E.

“Oi sarah wanna ditch with me, Y'know always good on the first day cause they never suspect a thing” Harmony says for of a command then a question.

I didn’t really want to miss the my first class, did I? BUt I didn’t want to disappoint harmony.

    “Sure”
I surprised myself how casual I sounded”

    “Let's do this”

    I nod in answer.

“ We’ll go down to the dairy and get some chocolate or something”Harmony says.

“I don’t have any money” I say nervously

“You don’t need no money” she says with a high pitched ;laugh.

    “Thanks!”

“No. were going to steal stuff” Harmony says in duh tone.

Butterflies swarm in my stomach , no way was me sarah connolly going to do this. I was always the good girl with perfect grades.  Maybe it was time for a change.

Harmony and I had now arrived at the dairy and my nerves were worse than ever.

“ trust me you won’t get caught I’ve done this a million times before”
I gulp nervously act cool, act cool. I don’t want to act like a total whimp.

“I’ll show  you what I can do” Harmony says before stepping into the dairy .

I waited what felt like hours but really was only five minutes.Harmony chucks me a block of chocolate.

    “You’re turn”

I nod before  I swiel into the dairy. The lady at the counter bowed over counting money. The perfect opportunity .

I heads towards the chocolate stall  and grab a twix twisting it around my thumb was I really gonna do this. My thoughts jitter from when I won the spelling bee to when I meet harmony.
This wasn’t the right choice. I drop the chocolate and go up yo the counter.

    “ Can I report shoplifting”
